This video was created to promote a career supporting program for Vietnamese students and professionals in the U.S. (CAME) (*), which is launched by The Vietnamese Professionals Network (VNPN) (**). With this video viewed over 7,300 times on Facebook and Youtube, the program got twice more applications than its previous season.

How I created the video.

VNPN is a non-profit organization with very a limited funding resource. As a media assistant volunteer for VNPN, I took on the responsibility to create the media material with no budget.

My main tool were Microsoft Power Point and iMovie.

First, I gathered all the information about the program, data from its previous season and pictures of people participated in the program.

After that, with the idea of how to tell the story in mind, I used Microsoft Power Point to create the video content. Each slide would be equivalent to each frame appeared in the video. The content took up to 83 slides in the file.

Each page is slightly different to its previous one. For example, in the picture below, 2 slides next to each other showed the similar content, only the space between letters is not the same. On the power point file, it might look boring and confusing, but what audience see in the video would be much more lively.

After finishing the slide, I converted it into a MP4 video file. It became a very slow moving video with no sound. Then I used iMovie to edit the video by adjusting the speed of the original content and adding music.

Finally, we had a complete, dynamic, interactive media material to kick off the new season of the career supporting program (CAME).

(*) Career Mentoring Program (CAME) is a program that matches experienced Vietnamese professionals (mentors) with Vietnamese students studying in the U.S (mentees) based upon their common personal and professional characteristics and interests to maximize the mentees’ chances of getting hired.

(**) The Vietnamese Professionals Network (VNPN) provides a platform for Vietnamese professionals and students in the U.S to easily connect with each other and share their own experiences on career development, to find invaluable internal job referrals, and to participate in career coaching programs to maximize their potentials.
